I really enjoyed the movie, but I don't understand the end. I thought that the characters were going to be revived, but they ended up going away.

We all knew he could write, and now we know that he is one hell of a director. There’s a brief dash of musical number here, because this movie needed to stop making sense sooner or later, and a lot of Hope trying to remind Actor Ryan of “who he really is.” This is around when he finds a Post-It that says “Look for the nines” on a counter — and he notices that there are lots of nines around him, in newspapers and so forth.

They all overlap and connect, except when they don’t, and only makes sense because of the number nine? I don't understand the importance of that.

Was this review helpful? I wrote this without reading any of the other reviews, mostly cos i didn't want them to influence my own, and partly cos i'm lazy. The film begins as almost a comedy and turns into a thriller so just be aware of this and do not get turned off too early.

Although beautifully put together and wonderfully acted, in my opinion The Nines is a pretty dull movie.

He gets involved with his Canadian next door neighbor Sarah (Hope Davis). Though a warning for this movie... you should only really watch with people serious about film...as it will just ruin the whole atmosphere of the film if you watch it with people who aren't. The Nines has some fantastic ideas and some really rather good performances (Melissa McCarthy is a constant joy throughout and Ryan Reynolds shows an impressive diversity for his acting league) however, after a promising start, loses its way as the story progresses. The Nines tells three short stories, the first of about an actor who is under house arrest after flipping over his car, the second is about a writer who's pilot TV show is in jeopardy and the last deals with a video game designer lost in the woods after his car breaks down. It’s a sci-fi/horror flick with three connected stories, directed by three different directors. For heaven's sake, the movie was explicitly philosophical but it had nothing to do with existentialism (which can be described quite plainly.) I will not spoil the movie for anyone.

Yeah, that’s because he’s the very writer whose house Actor Ryan was staying in–Oh, shit, it’s worth mentioning that this movie makes even less sense if you don’t know that it’s written and directed by John August, whose writing credits include John August and Ryan Reynolds. Like you might have for a friend who played too much World of Warcraft. This left The Nun with a lot of free room to explain its origins and motives - and it doesn't disappoint.

I do not wish to sound rude or negative but this film is very poor and even on a basic level it just doesn't cut the mustard.

The only question popping up my head was "is this it?!?!" The end reveals everything as well as why three lives are intertwined. Hooray! Can't elaborate on anything more, just go and see...anyway... So the plott is basically a god living in his own world so the focus is not on who he is blabla but on how this world is, asuming its the same we live in.


Ryan Reynolds blew me away and Melissa McCarthy was amazing. The show’s logline is “Rosemary’s toddler,” starring an evil little girl played by Elle Fanning and Melissa McCarthy (yay!)
