There is no confirmation of her having dyslexia (or something of the sort), but it describes what its like to struggle to that extent with such a terrible struggle, and feel so lonely. He truly cares about his students and notices them as individuals, with real struggles. But when she finally gets the chance, she discovers that the letters move before her eyes, "wiggling" in such a way that she cannot make them out. When I first read this book several years ago, I was moved to tears.
